6 Ways to Earn Your Children’s Respect
4. Use stories
If there is something awkward you want to convey to your kids, use stories, or gestures, or a gift, maybe a letter?! Of course they will know what you are up to, but they will respect you because you care enough to make an effort, apart from you understanding that it is hard and awkward to talk about.
5. Strike a balance
Be their friend, be their guide, be their mentor, be their life. But you have your own life as well. Your work, your friends, your rights! You have to strike a balance and handle everything as perfectly as you can. Nothing makes children more proud than seeing their parents be like super humans.
6. Stick by your beliefs
Stand by your ideals and beliefs. Raise your voice against injustice. Support what is right. Even if it means taking a different stand than your kids’. Of course, you have to find the line between taking a stand and an all out war.
It is not hard to earn your children’s respect, after all you created them. What is really hard is keeping it once you have earned it. Figure it out.
