6 Ways to Deal with a Clingy Child
4. Keep your feelings of pity at bay
What makes kids and infants clingy? The real reason could actually be the parents. If you had been a strong parent from the very beginning and controlled any early signs of clingy behavior in your child, you may have avoided the problem. If you feel this is the case, stop feeling pity when your child asks to tag along with you. Control your motherly feelings and deal with it in a tough, but appropriate manner.
5. Offer your child a reward for doing his/her own thing
Using a reward system for your child to decrease dependency on you can be successful. Set up tasks and say that you will be back after a few hours. Mention that you will hand out a reward if it is completed successfully. If your child is too young to stay alone, make sure there is a baby sitter or another family member available for supervision.
6. Don’t let your life revolve around your child
If you are in front of your child for most of the day, you are letting him/her expect you to be there all the time, no matter what. If you don’t happen to have a daytime job, fake being busy or schedule some deliberate time out. It is in your own hands to deal with your clingy child by not being available all the time.
