As an employer, you obviously know best what is needed to be done. But in order to make your employees really happy, you sometimes have to allow them to give their inputs as well. If an employee has performed well, he / she seeks approval. It is human nature to seek recognition for one’s good work. And in your organization, when someone does something good or exceptional, thank them publicly, reward them and let them know that their good work has been recognized and appreciated. This appeases their need for approval and keeps them immensely happy, also encouraging them to keep performing better and better.

The benefits that come as a part of their package are one thing. But in order to make them really happy, from time to time, you must give them extra benefits, over and above what they usually get or expect.
