‘How I Met Your Mother’ is no longer just another TV sitcom; it has become a part of its viewers lives. People all over the world follow it regularly and it is nothing short of a mania among the youngsters of this planet. Besides the brand of comedy which is unique and sets this show apart from the others, it also has a sprinkling of important life lessons which people can learn from. Here are some of them.
1. Long distance relationships won’t work
Barely a few manage to make long distance relationships work wherein the partners are separated for an unfixed amount of time. For most couples, it falls apart. In the first season, Ted is dating Victoria who gets offered a fellowship at a culinary institute in Germany. At the airport, Ted and Victoria decide to give long distance a try, both saying that it will work. However, Future Ted tells his kids that it didn’t, and that long-distance relationships hardly ever work. In the next episode we learn that Ted hates having to be on the phone all the time and is running out of things to talk about with Victoria and eventually they find other partners.
2. Stop being sad and start being awesome instead
Follow Barney Stinson’s legen-wait-for-it-dary dialog, “When I’m sad, I stop being sad and start being awesome instead!” As you must have seen in all of HIMYM’s episodes, Barney lives a life full of awesomeness and doesn’t let any kind of pitfall get to him. Even if sadness catches up with him, he cries his heart out but bounces back and goes on to becoming the happy go lucky guy that he is.
3. You can’t search for true love, it’s not a job
The biggest difference between the dream job and the dream life partner is that while you need to work hard searching for the former, the latter will happen on it’s own. Although Barney is the real player of the series, Ted has dated countless girls and relentlessly searched for The One, failing and trying over and over again. Working too hard and being in a hurry to find your life partner is going to get you nowhere for it will make you look desperate. Let destiny take its course and lead you to your love.
