6 Free Things to Do in New York
4. African burial ground and green-wood cemetery
The first is a controversial site, yet a powerful and poignant reminder of New York’s slave history. This is the site where 400 caskets of former slaves were found and the visitor’s center does a neat job of retelling the African American history. The latter is one of the nation’s most visited tourist spots and there is nothing spooky about it. It is just a huge and lovely green expanse and gothic structures, if you can forget about the bodies buried underneath. And yes the entrance is free.
5. Hispanic society of America Museum and library and the Japan society.
The Hispanic society has the largest collection of Spanish art outside of Spain and can be found in far north Manhattan. The galleries in the Japan society are also free to view.
6. Fifth Avenue
The whole of Fifth Avenue itself is a tourist attraction. Window shopping is a great time killer in this city. Apart from the high end stores, you can also do some serious people watching and see some beautiful architecture.
These are but a few but great places to visit for free when you are in New York.
