6 Fake Health Foods to Avoid
It is very easy to get tempted to dunk a packet or two of so-called healthy packaged food while shopping at the supermarket. But the realities behind such health foods are quite different. Here are a few fake health foods you should avoid at any cost.
1. Granola or instant oatmeal
Most of us are inclined to think that granola or instant oatmeal based cereals are very healthy. But this is far from the truth. Oats present in granola or other cereals are extremely refined and processed because of which they lose all their nutritional value, especially fiber. So when you eat bowl after bowl of granola every morning, you are basically stacking up on empty calories and sugar because of their higher glycemic index. Your cereal is then made worse because you may add sugar and dried fruits to your granola mix for added taste.
2. Fruit Juice
Did you know that drinking one tall glass of packaged fruit juice is the same as drinking one tall glass of sugary cola? As ridiculous as the facts sounds, it is true. No matter how healthy packaged juices claim themselves to be, they reality is that they are nothing but a mixture of some fruit pulp, water, sugar and a lot of flavoring agents. Even if you are drinking freshly squeezed juice, it is not the same as eating whole fruit because most of the fiber will be lost in the juicing process.
3. Vegetable Oils
Vegetable oils may sound healthy because they contain the word vegetable, but these are fake health foods you must avoid. Such oils are heavily processed and refined because of which they contain high amounts of Omega-6 fatty acids. These oils can also cause inflammation which further leads to heart disease, obesity and a host of other cardiovascular problems. If you are using vegetable oil in your cooking, switch to olive oil which is a much healthier option.
