6 Epidural Side Effects

4. Trouble lying down

Women may experience trouble in lying down because of the epidural and may need to keep changing their position. This may make pushing a bit difficult and hence in some cases may prolong labor a bit.

5. Permanent nerve damage

As in case of all such procedures, there’s the risk of permanent nerve damage at the place where epidural was given. But it occurs rarely.

6. Trouble in breastfeeding newborns

There’s no clear conclusive study to prove this but it has been suggested that women who have been given epidurals find it difficult to breastfeed their babies after birth.

Everything in medical science has its pros and cons. So it’s best for you to discuss with your obstetrician in advance about what would be best for you during labor so that you can make an informed decision regarding what to use and what not to!
