6 Diseases Women are More Prone to Than Men

4. Autoimmune diseases

The female sex is more prone to a variety of autoimmune diseases, including lupus, rheumatoid arthritis and multiple sclerosis. Scientists are of the opinion that male and female vulnerability to disease is partly hardwired, the result of one’s genetic makeup, and partly hormonal, changing with the rise and fall of sex hormones throughout life. Environmental and social factors also can have a hand in determining your chances of suffering from a particular condition, as can the brain.

5. Depression and anxiety disorders

Women may be mentally and emotionally stronger as commonly perceived but they are not shielded from mental diseases like depression and anxiety as much as men are. Women are approximately 75% more likely than men to report having recently suffered from depression and around 60% more likely to report an anxiety disorder.

6. COPD

In the past, this disease in women never garnered as much attention as it does today. In fact, recent studies cite that women are more likely to have chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) than men. This is a progressive lung disease, which doesn’t have any known cure, that makes breathing difficult for the patient. It has been found that COPD is responsible for the rising death toll rate in women. As the number of women smokers rises with each day, this trend may continue in the near future. So, stay away from smoking if you wish to avoid COPD.
