6 Car Repair Scams to Watch Out For
4. A verbal estimate of your bill
A verbal estimate is no good. Get them to give it to you in writing as they can always change their stories and end up charging you way higher than you had expected or what you had been told.
5. Specials
They advertise low cost specials, claiming low cost for some cleaning and oil changes that you don’t really need. They then give you a list of manufactured repairs. Do not fall for this. Check your car well before you send it to a mechanic.
6. Warranty coverage
They will tell you they would do the repairs that your warranty covers, but will tell you later that it doesn’t cover the repairs done. Always go through your warranty carefully and check to see if the repairs and the coverage mentioned match.
The best thing would be to do some research before you trust your mechanic blindly. There are a lot of pages and internet forums that can give you suggestions about your problems. Even if you can’t fix it yourself, you will at least know what is happening to your car and what the mechanic is claiming. Better take a friend with you who can do the auto talk. That would keep them quiet.
