5 Reasons Why Contact Lenses Are Better Than Spectacles

Facts About Contact Lenses. Why Are They Better Than Spectacles?

The debate about spectacles or contact lenses has been going on and on and on. We are sure you’ve had a lot of people giving you their so-called expert advice over the issue. Let’s separate the myths from the facts and find out if contact lenses are the better option or not.

1. Eye infections are NOT common while wearing contacts

You must have gone, “What? Of course they are common. We’ve heard it from a lot of people.” Well did you ask those people if they followed regular cleaning routines? Did you know that corneal infections or other serious eye infections due to wearing contact lenses are rare? Poor cleaning routines and poor care are most common causes of irritation or infection among users. Consult your optometrist and find out the best and easiest way to maintain a proper cleaning routine for your lenses.

2. Contact lenses do not hurt

We would have agreed that contact lenses hurt, if we were living in 1960 when they were made from glass. Get with the times! The soft contact lenses available in the market do not hurt. Few of our colleagues wear contact lenses and they all said that it took them hours if not minutes to get used to the soft lenses. We asked one of them, “What does it feel like?” She said, “It feels like nothing. Nothing at all.” Isn’t this better than wearing spectacles where as opposed to contact lenses, you actually feel that you have a frame on your face? Users say that prolonged use of tight spectacles may even harm the skin which is affected by the constant rubbing.

3. Contact lenses give you peripheral vision

We’ll cut the technical jargon short– peripheral vision means that your entire view is within the focus of the lens. On the other hand, spectacles are some distance away from the eyes. Many users report poor side vision. Do you drive a lot? Play a lot of sports? If you do, many experts recommend the use of contact lenses over spectacles as your side vision is better.

4. Contact lenses cannot get lost in your eye

Many and we mean many people are afraid of not using contact lenses due to the fear of it being lost ‘behind’ the eye or something like that. Did you know that there is a membrane that connects the inside of your eye to the bottom of the skin leading to the eye lids? This makes the lens stay at the front surface of the eye. And while we are talking about this silly thing, let us also tell you that contact lenses cannot get ‘fused’ into your eye.

5. Contact lenses make more fashion sense

Okay, okay, maybe we are pushing the boundaries of contact lenses vs. spectacles but, why not? With spectacles, you need to be careful that they complement your outfit. You may have a casual frame which might not be the best thing to have on a formal dinner date. On the other hand, you may have spectacles that you usually wear in office which could be too boring for a casual day out at the beach. Contact lenses have no such issues and will match everything you wear.
Contact lenses surely win over spectacles in our book. They have no weight, there is no discomfort and there is no constantly ‘slipping’ frame you need to be worried about. Although contact lenses get a lot of bashing from skeptics now and then, we reckon you be wise and consult an optometrist to confirm the facts we’ve just talked about. Don’t your beautiful eyes deserve to be in full view of the admirer?
