5 Reasons to not Share Your Children’s Secrets
4. They may stop seeing you as a role model
Every little one considers their parents their first role models and ones they look up to. If you want to maintain that perception, then you have to act your part. Behave with dignity and show them that you respect their secret as much as they respect it.
5. It helps to build their character
When a parent steps up to help a child without making him or her uncomfortable, the parent is in effect trying to build the character of the little one. Regardless of the nature of the secret, do not chide, reprimand, embarrass or bully your child. All of us are parties to several mistakes in our lives and it is never fair to pull a child by his or her ears when they have committed a mistake or kept a secret or have been party to a mistake.
Teaching a little kid the difference between a good secret and a bad one is tough. They have to grow up and understand the difference between the two themselves. But when your children are young, encourage them to share their secrets with you to ensure no harm falls on them. But when they do, you should neither belittle nor embarrass them.
