5 Great Health Tips for Women Over 60
You’re at 60 now and told to stick to a healthy diet, do some exercise and chuck up unhealthy habits such as smoking or drinking excessively. Even though damage may have been done to the system, giving up such unhealthy habits can add a couple of more years to your life. This is the time when pregnancy, child-rearing and menopause are all behind us, and there’s plenty of time left to do all the things you couldn’t find time for earlier, but can do now provided you stay fit.
1. Eat food that is healthy
Fruits, vegetables, dairy products, cereals, lean or white meat, soup, milk and juice yield vitamins, minerals, vitamins, protein, calcium, carbohydrates, iron, folic acid, potassium, omega-3 fats and phyto-nutrients, which are so essential for good health. Food such as whole wheat bread and oranges provide fiber that allows your body to get rid of ‘bad’ cholesterol and prevents constipation; calcium and vitamin D prevent osteoporosis; potassium fights off heart disease; and phyto-nutrients disallow changes to take place in the DNA, keeping cancer and the aging process at bay.
2. Keep your body hydrated
Watch out for dehydration. Drinking plenty of water will help you maintain the body fluids, keep the body free of harmful toxins and prevent constipation, making bowel movement easier. But you have to now decrease your intake of sugar and salt.
3. Consult your doctor
Inform your physician/gynecologist of your family medical history, as certain diseases, including heart disease, hypertension and diabetes, can stem from preceding generations; consult your gynecologist for any advice you think you need and go for any tests your doctor advises you to take. Do not start or stop any therapy on your own.
