5 Foods that You Should Avoid
You must eat to live, not live to eat. If you love food, it is good, but if you love food indiscriminately, it is dangerous. There is no alternative to a healthy diet but you must know that certain foods which appear to be healthy might contain certain compounds which could harm your health in spite of satiating your taste buds. Listed below are some foods that you should avoid and the reason why.
1. Fast foods and packaged products
You must avoid all types of fast foods – packaged or not. Also, there are plenty of packaged ready-to-eat snacks which are dangerous, if indulged in without caution. Any snack (burgers, pizzas, noodles and so on) you buy from leading fast food outlets or packaged foods like chips, candies and the likes contain MSG or monosodium glutamate which is used to artificially enhance the taste of the foods. MSG is known to have harmful effects on the nervous system and cause illness.
2. Vegetable oil
The varieties of vegetable oil available in the market – sunflower oil, corn oil and so on – are potentially harmful and their excess use should be avoided. These oils are industrially processed and contain omega-6 fatty acids which can lead to heart problems like irregular heartbeat and muscle cramps. All such factory produced oils are harmful for your health and so you should instead opt for virgin olive oil, unsaturated soy oil or mustard oil.
3. White flour
Refined white flour and all products made of such flour (like noodles and pasta) are not very healthy as they have a high glycemic index which is harmful for your health. Refined white flour lacks the essential nutrients found in whole grain products as in the course of processing, bran and germ are removed from the flour which contain all the essential vitamins and minerals. Flour is known to be responsible for an increased risk of heart diseases, sugar and insulin imbalance in the body leading to diabetic conditions and an increased level of cholesterol.
