5 Causes of Heavy Periods
4. Ovary Ddsfunction
Yet another cause of heavy periods is dysfunction of the ovaries. If ovulation does not happen in a menstrual cycle, hormone progesterone is not produced. This results in imbalance in hormone levels eventually resulting in menorrhagia.
5. Adenomyosis
Adenomyosis is another cause for heavy periods. When the endometrium gets implanted in the uterine muscle, it often causes heavy and painful bleeding. This occurs mostly among middle aged women. It is also known as “endometriosis of the uterus”. This condition is generally characterized by menstrual flow and uterine enlargement.
Uterine fibroids, pelvic infections or tumours, liver or kidney problems, infection in the uterus, stress, change in diet or exercise routine are some of the other causes for heavy periods. A proper diet rich in vitamins and minerals and exercise is mandatory to curb excessive blood flow.
