4 Reasons Why New Veet Ads are Offensive
3. It has very homophobic tendencies
The advert not only degrades women by telling them that they look like a man with all that hair but by projecting them as men when they have not removed their hair brings in certain homophobic strains. It is like telling their viewers that waking up with a man is both scary and disgusting.
4. If all women used veet, they would all probably be happy with the man of their dreams and get a taxi without any trouble
Or at least it is what the ad leads us to think. A taxi does not stop for a woman on the street coz she has not waxed and thereby looks like a man. Deeply offending, one must say.
Advertisements can be cheeky and attention grabbing without hurting the sensibilities of the viewer. This advert while certainly scoring high on the attention grabbing part is sure offensive and crude. And no amount of explanation by the company executives is going to wipe out the bad taste created by this advertisement. It is good news that these were finally taken off.
