4 Foods That Are Good For The Brain
Brain is the engine that drives the whole body and everybody wants to have a healthy, well-functioning engine to take them along life’s journey. Well, the fuel to keep this engine running smoothly is there, right in your kitchen. If taken in just the right amount, these foods can help you use your brain to its maximum capabilities. Let’s have a look at some of these foods that are good for the brain.
1. Fish
Oily fishes like salmon, sardines and mackerels are the best source of Omega-3 fatty acids, that are known to promote the proper function of the brain. Omega-3 is a polyunsaturated fatty acid that enhances the functioning of the brain, but can’t be produced by the body. Hence, it needs to be a part of your diet. Adults should consume about 0.45g of Omega-3 fatty acids per day, which amounts to 280g of fish a week. However, 2 servings a week are enough for teenagers and expecting mothers. Eat oily fish twice a week. Prefer small fishes like mackerel, herrings, sardines, shellfish, and pilchards. Omega 6, another fatty acid that is vital for the brain, is abundantly found in eggs and dairy products.
If you are a vegetarian or vegan, you can still get your required dose of Omega-3 fatty acids. A handful of walnuts, grape seeds or flax seeds can give you the desired quantity of Omega-3 fatty acids and keep your brain up and running.
2. Walnuts
Walnuts are great foods for the brain and provide the essential Omega-3 fatty acids in ample amount.
3. Berries
Berries of all kinds are extremely rich sources of antioxidant which help keep your brain young and active. They preserve brain health and fight free radicals which attack brain cells and make them weak. Strawberry, cranberry, raspberry, blueberry, all of these are rich sources of nutrients.
