14 Interview Do’s and Don’ts
The Don’ts
1. Don’t fidget
While giving an interview, you must not fidget in your chair or play with your cell phone. Also, don’t slouch while sitting in your chair.
2. Don’t offer negative information
Whatever you say during the interview, you should not offer negative information about yourself, your former employers or coworkers. This puts you in a bad light.
3. Don’t smell bad
You should strictly keep away from cigarettes before going for an interview. You don’t want to be smelling of smoke to your prospective boss if he/she happens to meet you while giving the interview, do you? Chew a mint before going for the interview.
4. Don’t use slang words
Using words such as ‘ya’, ‘yeah’, ‘oh boy’ is appropriate when among your friends, not in an interview. Take short pauses if you need to before answering questions. But too long a pause after all questions will make your job prospects doubtful.
5. Don’t lie
Your qualifications may not be that good. But that doesn’t mean you should lie and put yourself on a high pedestal in front of the employer. If you are hired and your lie is caught later on, you will be in deeper trouble.
6. Don’t get personal
You came for getting a job, not for talking about your personal or family problems. So you should stick to that. Remember: Your personal and professional life should be kept miles apart, always.
7. Don’t attend calls
It’s downright rude to attend calls while giving an interview. Keep your mobile on silent mode or switch it off completely.
These are the do’s and don’ts that you should follow while giving an interview.
