11 Best New Years Resolutions
With every New Year, you are given a chance to have a fresh start. So come on and make a difference in your life. It’s the beginning of a whole new era. Take charge, take control and take resolutions that actually matter. Given here are some of the best New Years resolutions to help you start.
1. Learn to play an instrument
Instead of ‘air banding’ every time you listen to your favorite song, grab a guitar or a drum set or whichever instrument suits you, and learn to play it. Seriously, you can’t deny that air banding looks ridiculous. Go to classes regularly and soon enough, you will be making music by yourself. It is a pleasure in itself.
2. Learn a new language
It is easier to learn new languages when you are younger than when you get old. So pick a language that you always found fascinating and learn it. Remember to keep practicing because if you don’t speak it often, you may not be able to speak fluently. If you can’t do that, well then there isn’t a point in learning it in the first place, is there? Interesting fact, a person who knows more languages is less likely to get Alzheimer’s disease. So keep learning.
3. Read more
Reading is a good habit. It gives you wisdom and it is a pleasurable pastime. Resolve to read more this year. Ask your friends to recommend good books and put it down in your shopping list, or borrow it from a library. But sometimes you and your friends may not share the same taste in books. So it is better if you know what kind of books you like so you can shortlist your list. Make a promise to yourself that you will complete at least five books by the end of 2012. Keeping such goals will help you focus and power through this resolution with no qualms.
4. Get into shape
Noticed that you’ve gotten chubbier than the last year? Carrying a little Christmas weight that is making you self-conscious? Make it a point to use your gym card this year. Work out the extra pounds. Hire a trainer if you can afford it or go jogging every morning. Change your diet for the better. Also cut back on the junk food. Oh yeah, having a burger from your favorite burger joint is irresistible. But if you want to stay fit, you’ll have to cut down on greasy food. Have it occasionally but you know it when you are having a little too much. Eat healthy. Add more fruits and vegetables to your diet. Learn to cook vegetables in an interesting way and you’ll never know you switched diets. In the end, it is your fitness that counts.
5. Spend less
It is easy to take resolutions like these but it is pretty hard to let your cash stay inside the purse when you see a cute dress on a shop mannequin. All us women have a monster inside us that simply loves to throw away money on inconsequential jumbles. Resolve to resolve the problem this year. Carry less cash. Do not take your credit card every time you go out. When you feel like buying something that you laid your eyes on, once think whether you really need it. If you happen to think twice about it, walk away and no one will be the wiser.
6. Quit a bad habit
Addicted to something that your family doesn’t approve of? Do you bite your pretty nails off when tensed? Do you occasionally return home slightly high? It is high time you quit your bad habits. If not for yourself then at least do it for your family. Keep that in mind and you’ll definitely be motivated.
