10 Useful Tips to Build a Rapport With Your Boss
Sharing a good rapport with your boss can go a long way in ensuring satisfaction in the workplace as well as in your career development. So here are some tips to help you get into the good books of your boss.
1. Be competent in your job
No one likes a sloppy person, and an incompetent employee can make the best of bosses see red. So before anything else, make sure you are good at your job. Everything else comes later.
2. Be ready to volunteer
Don’t expect to build a great rapport with your boss just by showing up, doing your job and coming back home just as the clock strikes five. Be ready to do something extra and volunteer your services when the boss needs something to be done urgently.
3. Don’t flatter him all the time
You don’t have to suck up to your boss all the time to be in his good books. Flattery is fine, but only up to a certain extent. Everything too much is bad, and the same applies to flattery as well.
4. Be assertive
You don’t have to be a yes man to be the best buddy of your boss. Don’t be too aggressive or too passive in the workplace. Be assertive and stand up for yourself. Learn to say no without straining relationships.
5. Don’t indulge in backbiting
What goes around comes back around. So never make the mistake of murdering your boss’ reputation in front of your colleague(s), no matter how close you people are. Rest assured, some part of it is definitely gonna reach his ears, and apparently it’s gonna be all downhill from there.
