10 Annoyingly Overused Words
6. Love
Be it a boyfriend of two days or the friend whom you probably met a few hours ago, this is one word which most of you tend to associate it with them. It doesn’t matter how much you really mean it, most of you assume that it doesn’t hurt saying it anyway. Here is the truth: Just because it sounds good, doesn’t mean you use it anyway and everywhere, on anyone and everyone. “I just LOVE my friends so much!” or “I LOVE your house” or “You will LOVE my parents!” Just stop it!
7. Awesome
Dictionary.com says that the word “awesome” means inspiring an overwhelming feeling of admiration or fear. Someone asks you how did your exam paper go, and you say “awesome!” Does it make sense! How could your exams paper give you an inspiration for an overwhelming feeling of admiration or fear! But you still say “awesome” and think you have perfectly described it! Come to think of it, there aren’t that many awesome things in this world compared to the number of times the word is used!
8. Nice
This word that used to be considered once upon a time as a positive feedback about something, today, due to over usage, has turned into something you say when you don’t want to sound rude. Come to think of it, if you ask your boyfriend how are you looking and he says “nice” what will you think? Won’t you interpret this “nice” as “well, I don’t think you are looking that great, but since you are asking I have to say something!”?
9. Literally
This is yet another word that has been illegitimately used over and over again. “Literally” is a word you use when you have said something that must not be taken figuratively. For example, if you ran really fast, you could say, “I literally ran faster than a train.” However in reality, people tend to use this word every time for emphasis. As a result, this word has become so general and has lost its real technical meaning.
10. Bitch
This is another example of a verbal overkill that sadly has lost its real meaning. The word that once stood for a female dog, today is used to abuse another person, to playfully tease your friends or as an anchor lyric in hip-hop culture. As if this word was not used enough, today other words are also attached to this word and used more often. For example, son of a bitch, bitch slap, riding bitch and so on. If someone talks about you behind your back, it is called “bitching”.
