5 Reasons Why Cheerleading is a Sport
4. It can be compared to other sports
When gymnastics could be an official sport in the Olympics then why can’t cheerleading find its place in the category of sports? Gymnastics include elaborate flips, tricks and other acrobatic feats on mats, trampolines and beams. Similarly, in cheerleading, one has to perform similar tricks only on mats and impress the judges. The difficulty level is equally high, and hence, cheerleading should be taken seriously.
5. It requires team work
The most important factor in this sport is to trust your team members blindly. There are numerous lifts and tosses during the act, and to perform them effortlessly, one needs to trust the other members in the team. And more importantly, all these things need to be done according to the choreography of the act. Cheerleading causes many injuries and accidents like any other sport in the world. And like all other sports, this sport too needs proper teamwork to excel.
The argument about cheerleading being a sport or not is never ending. But fortunately, times are changing and people are taking cheerleading seriously. This sport also has a proper structure like any other athletic activity, and hence, cheerleaders can proudly call themselves athletes without any hesitation.
