The owl has always found a place in anything that is dark and creepy and it is no wonder it is a symbol of Halloween too. In Medieval Europe owls were thought to be a form of witches and if anyone heard an owl hoot, it meant that someone was about to die.
7. Trick or treating has a medieval origin
In medieval times the poor went to rich people’s homes and prayed for the dead in exchange for soul cakes. This was done on the 1st of November and was called Hallowmas. This is the precursor to modern day trick or treating.

Black symbolized death and reminds everyone that Halloween is about the boundaries of life and death while orange along with gold symbolizes the abundance of harvest.
